How ARTISS [Fibrin Sealant (Human)] Works

ARTISS is comprised of two human plasma derived components:1

  • A sealer protein solution containing human fibrinogen and a synthetic fibrinolysis inhibitor
that helps delay the premature breakdown of the clot at the site of application
  • A low-concentration human thrombin solution in a calcium chloride solution, which allows a polymerization time of up to 60 seconds

Adhesive properties of ARTISS provide full surface adherence of skin flaps and grafts. Full surface adherence minimizes areas of dead space between the wound bed and applied tissues. Elimination of dead space prevents shear irritation upon movement as well as reduces the void space under the skin that can host fluid build-up.1

For Topical Use Only. Do not inject ARTISS directly into blood vessels.
Intravascular application of ARTISS may result in life-threatening thromboembolic events.
